SCHOLARSHIPS

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL 2010
UNIVERSITY OF OSLO - NORWAY

We have the pleasure of announcing that a limited number of scholarships will be made available for students from former Yugoslavia for studies at the International Summer School during our 2010 session, 26 June – 6 August.

The International Summer School (ISS) is a centre for learning in an international context, offering courses in the humanities and social sciences to an average of 550 students from eighty to ninety nations every summer. In addition to the academic instruction there are international evenings, debates, sports, excursions and informal get-togethers. Both through the academic programme and the extra-curricular activities we hope to increase understanding and good will among nations.

The present scholarship programme is part of a confidence-building project aiming at stimulating dialogue and creating mutual understanding between students from different parts of former Yugoslavia, and includes some activities in addition to the regular ISS programme.  In cooperation with the Nansen Academy, a seminar focusing on democracy, human rights and peaceful conflict resolution will be arranged prior to the ISS session. There will also be special meetings for the group on campus during the session. In line with the bridge-building focus of the programme, students in the project who so wish will be accommodated together in groups of two.

Candidates for scholarships should fulfil the following criteria: university degree or university studies, preferably in the humanities or social sciences. It would also be advantageous for the candidate if he/she has been active in student organisations or human rights organisations. We encourage both male and female students to apply. Please note that good command of English is absolutely essential, as all the relevant courses are taught in English.

For their academic programme, candidates can choose freely between the regular ISS courses taught in English presented in the ISS catalogue. Please note that some graduate courses require specific academic and/or professional experience.

The scholarship will cover the basic fee, which includes board and lodging at the university campus, any additional course fees, pocket money and return travel expenses between your nearest international airport and Norway.
